Symphony

Aloysha and Jen went to Al's first symphony today. He loved it! It is so amazing to see an almost 2 year old sit still for about 45 minutes watching other people sitting still on a stage playing musical instruments. Aloysha's favorite was a song written to the book "The Little Engine that Could" (a book that he has and we read almost every day) The conductor had added audience participation while they symphony was playing the song--1/3 of the audience had to say Choo, Choo! 1/3 of the audience had to rub their hands together to make the sound of steam and the other 1/3 had to say "chug, chug, chug, chug" We were in the steam making 1/3 of the audience. Aloysha sat there rubbing his little hands together, and when they made sign to stop rubbing he yelled “STOP!” and smiled because he understood what was going in.
Can you believe that the tickets are only $4—we had great balcony seats—perfect for the symphony concert in Arlene Schnitzer Hall. This was the last concert of the season, but I do believe that we will be attending as many as we can. The youngest violinist was 4 years old! We have two more years to make Aloysha a virtuoso.
The official press release on the symphony: In a showcase of young talent, more than 100 young musicians and singers from around the Portland area will be featured in “Creative Kids,” an Oregon Symphony Kids Concert to be led by Guest Conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe and featuring the world premiere of a work by 15-year-old Joshua Humlie on Sunday, March 5 at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
