Spring Fever
A new month has begun--already the third one of this year! I cannot believe that Aloysha is going to be two years old next month! The time sure does go by quickly. It is in the plans to go to Estonia in the next few weeks. The idea and opportunity just popped up and now here we are already thinking of how to get from here there and how interrupt the flow of daily activities here in Portland…what we are going to do with our plants and with our family—thinking of jet lag again and surprises and weather and drinking evening tea with Roma’s family—this time getting to spend some time with Kristina and Max, Aloysha’s cousins.
Jen’s parents are probably coming too! How exciting! Due to this rare gathering it seems as if it may be the opportune time to do a little baptism at Kuremae Monastery, the same place that Roma was baptized. (We’ll see how that works out because the exact time happens to fall on the Russian Orthodox Easter Celebration…I am not sure how/when/if they do baptisms on that day) But even if the baptism doesn’t work out—my parents get to meet all of Roma’s family and that will be totally worth the trip. Of course Romka wants to show off his home town at its best and it is very iffy in April…but, we are looking forward to greeting the beautiful Sillamae spring.
It will be a double dose of spring for us and Jen’s parents since we are greeting spring already here in Portland and in Graham. What a beautiful sunny day we have here today! A couple of days ago I was walking down the street—alone actually, Roma and Aloysha didn’t feel to good and they were home watching Winnie Pooh—I was walking down the street to the store to get some fruit and I took my camera out to record the rebirth of nature this year. There was a great big rosemary bush that I just swept my hand through and then sniffed my hand—that scent is so strong and stays with you for a long time. As I took my breath, I smiled and looked around at the blooming trees and the blue sky and just smiled—and through all this enjoyment some strange man was watching me the whole way as he walked toward me on the sidewalk, he just smiled at me in agreement, like all of us walking on the street that afternoon were having the same thoughts.
